These terms and conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of the Chiswick Business directory, membership and events service at chiswickbusiness.co.uk (the “Site”), operated by Theo Ruby, trading as Theo Ruby Marketing, of Elthorne Avenue, London W7 2JN (“we”, “us”, “our”), in partnership with the Chiswick Business Network. By creating a listing, taking out a membership, or otherwise using the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Site.
1. What we offer
CBN is a business directory and networking community for businesses in and around Chiswick, W4. The Site lets businesses create a public listing, upgrade to a paid tier for additional features, browse other members’ listings, and find or post local events. Free listings require no payment. Verified and Spotlight are paid membership tiers with monthly or yearly billing, described in full on the Membership page.
2. Creating an account and a listing
You must be at least 18 years old and authorised to represent the business you list. You’re responsible for keeping your account details accurate and your login secure, and for all activity that happens under your account. You’re responsible for the accuracy of the information in your listing (business name, address, contact details, description, images and anything else you submit), and for keeping it up to date. We may ask you to correct or remove content that’s inaccurate, misleading, or that breaches these Terms.
3. Membership plans, pricing and payment
Paid membership (Verified and Spotlight) is billed on a recurring basis, monthly or yearly, whichever you choose at checkout, until you cancel. Payments are processed by Stripe using either card or Bacs Direct Debit; we don’t store your card or bank details ourselves. Prices are shown in GBP and include any VAT that applies. We’ll email you before any price change takes effect, and the new price will apply from your next renewal.
If a payment fails, for example because of an expired card or a returned Direct Debit, we’ll try to let you know and may retry the payment. If it isn’t resolved within a reasonable period, we may pause or downgrade your paid listing benefits until payment succeeds.
4. Cancelling and refunds
You can cancel a paid membership at any time from your account dashboard, or by emailing us. Cancelling stops future billing; it doesn’t automatically refund the period you’ve already paid for, and your paid benefits continue until the end of that period. Because this is a business-to-business service, the statutory consumer cooling-off period doesn’t apply, but if something’s gone wrong with your listing or billing, get in touch: we’ll sort it out fairly rather than hide behind a policy.
5. Acceptable use
Please don’t use the Site to:
- post false, misleading, or fraudulent listing or event information
- list a business you’re not authorised to represent
- post unlawful, defamatory, obscene, or infringing content
- post fake reviews or ratings, for yourself or anyone else
- scrape, bulk-download, or otherwise harvest listing or member data
- attempt to disrupt, hack, or gain unauthorised access to the Site
We can remove content, suspend, or close an account that breaches this, with or without notice depending on severity.
6. Events
Events shown on the Site may be organised by CBN, by members, or imported from third-party platforms such as Eventbrite, Meetup, or Facebook. Where booking happens through a third-party platform, that platform’s own terms apply to the booking and payment, and CBN isn’t a party to that transaction. We aren’t responsible for the conduct of event organisers or attendees, or for the accuracy of imported event details, though we’ll fix errors we’re made aware of.
7. Intellectual property
The Site’s design, text, and branding belong to CBN or our licensors, except for content you submit yourself. By submitting a listing, event, photo, or other content, you grant CBN a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display it on the Site and in reasonable related promotion (for example, featuring a listing on the homepage or in a newsletter). You keep ownership of what you submit and can ask us to remove it at any time.
8. Liability
The Site is provided “as is.” We don’t guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we aren’t responsible for the accuracy of listings or content submitted by members, or for any dealings, transactions, or disputes between members or between a member and a third party arranged through the Site. Nothing in these Terms limits liability where the law doesn’t allow it to be limited, for example for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence. Beyond that, our liability to you is limited to the amount you’ve paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
9. Ending these Terms
You can close your account at any time. We can suspend or close an account for breach of these Terms, non-payment, or if we reasonably believe continuing to provide the Site to you would create a legal or safety risk. Where practical, we’ll give notice first.
10. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time, to reflect a new feature, a change in the law, or how the Site actually works. We’ll post the updated version here with a new “last updated” date, and for material changes we’ll try to give existing paid members reasonable notice by email.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any dispute will be dealt with by the courts of England and Wales.
